1 – Hello, how are things going over there? Please tell me, when did you form Offal and who does what in your band?
André – Well, we start our activities late 2003 as a trio just playing some Autopsy’s covers and the band originally called Orgy in Excrements (Autopsy’s Acts of the Unspeakable song). Some time later we start to do our songs and when we got some good ones we decided to record that stuff! So, we did and I sent it just to some local friends, we really didn’t have any plans to put that stuff out as an official release or something else! Some months later my friend Renzo of I Shit on Your Face started a label (The Hole Productions) and I sent the whole stuff for him, so he said that would like to put it out as his number one release! It was really awesome, so we started to produce the whole cover / layout and some months later our first full-length was finally out: Offal – S/t full-length CD – The Hole Productions 2006. Fortunately we’ve got several good responses about the CD and nowadays it’s totally sold-out! Later we had some few line-up changes and recently we have released our latest stuff, a split MCD with the Aussie freaks of Bowel Fetus also via The Hole Productions, check it out! Offal today is: André Luiz – Vocals, Eduardo Tobe – Drums, João Ongaro – Bass, Tersis Zonato – Guitars and backing vocals.
2 – Do you play live regular or is it hard for you to get gigs?
André - No, no, we don’t play on a regular way! Our drummer is constantly travelling because of his job and is really hard to get some free dates from him to play live, so we’ll keep playing just some few times per year! We got several invites to play live over Brazil but unfortunately we can’t do most of these gigs!
3 – How are the reactions of the audience while you are performing?
André - Ohhh great, people always give to us great support at our live sets, the freaks are violent and the stage-diving and the mosh-pit circle are really intense and insane, great, hauauauaua!
4 – What are your main musical influences?
André - Late 80’s and early 90’s Death Metal cult and the full splatter platters of the B-cinema in general!
5 – What do you think about the two new Autopsy songs recorded last year?
André - Just another fuckin’ awesome MASTERPIECE! AUTOPSY OWNS!
6 – What’s your opinion about Chris Reifert’s other projects Abscess and The Ravenous?
André - Chris and Coralles are live legends of Death Metal! And we’re absolutely onto all that these freaks did and are currently doing! We really love Abscess and The Ravenous, especially Abscess! Von and Eat My Fuk are also fuckin’ sick and twisted! I can’t imagine them doing anything that doesn’t be on this vile way, all hail them!
7 – List your personal favorite 5 CDs at the moment and your all time favorite album?
André - At the moment:
AUTOPSY – Horrific Obsession
HAEMORRHAGE – Apology for Pathology
GENERAL SURGERY – Corpus in Extremis – Analyzing Necrocriticism
GHOUL – We Came for the Dead
DISHAMMER – Vintage Addiction
DECREPITAPH – Condemned Cathedral
FLESH GRINDER – Crumb’s Crunch Delights Organization
MALIGNANT TUMOUR – In Full Swing
All time favorites:
AUTOPSY – Mental Funeral
IMPETIGO – Ultimo Mondo Cannibale
REPULSION – Horrified
NAPALM DEATH – From Enslavement to Obliteration
DEATH – Scream Bloody Gore
MORBID ANGEL – Altars of Madness
CARCASS – Symphonies of Sickness
SLAYER – Raining Blood
8 – Horror movies seem to be one of your main influences. Please list some of your favorite movies.
André - Ohhh several names to mention, I could prefer to mention the directors’ names that we are really fans: H.G. Lewis, S. Gordon, Ossorio, Fulci, Argento, Lenzi, Romero, Deodato, Bava, Corman, Franco, Martino, Buttgereit, Baiestorf, Mojica, Rick.
9 – What do you consider to be the all time sickest gore cover used by a band? Do you prefer real gore covers or painted ones?
André - The sickest gore covers I’ve seen are: Disgorge (Mex) – Forensick and the sickest artwork: Cannibal Corpse – Tomb of the Mutilated. I can’t precise what’s the better way but I think it must follow the band’s genre and concept. If the band is more into gore and pathology I think that a picture of a true fact can represent on a better way what the band want to show: a pathology, a surgery, an accident… but if the band is oriented into non-real subjects an artwork is the better way to represent its intent. Or how could you take a picture of a cadaver sucking a cunt of a retaliated woman? No way, so…
10 – Any funny drunken or stoned stories from rehearsals or gigs?
André - Ohhh no, our gigs are too few and didn’t happen anything on this way, maybe a guy puking on the stage or some weird mosh-pit freaks into some very funny way to mosh! And some time ago our rehearsal room almost got burned, we don’t know what happened but it wasn’t cool!
11 – What about Lymphatic Phlegm? Are there any new things coming up or has the band broken up? What happened to the Lymphatic Phlegm MySpace page?
André - Lymphatic Phlegm is totally out of work and we don’t have any plans to get back yet! The band isn’t R.I.P but I really don’t know when we’ll get back especially ‘coz Rodrigo keep living outside Curitiba! Lymphatic Phlegm / I Shit on Your Face split 7”ep is out now via Goat Grind Productions / Switzerland, check it! That MySpace page is just out, I just got pissed-off on running that, so I take-off the air, no news, no plans, no reason…
12 – Please list all tapes/CDs/Lps you have released with Offal so far.
André - Offal s/t full-length CD 2006 – The Hole Productions – Brazil.
Offal / Bowel Fetus split MCD 2008 – The Hole Productions – Brazil.
13 – What can we expect for Offal in 2009? Any new releases or gigs planned?
André - We’re currently working on our second full-length CD/LP to be out late 2009/early 2010 and we’re planning a split 7”ep also! There are just some few gigs planned, we really won’t play live a lot this year, because as I said before, we have some real difficulties to get dates from our drummer to play live, so…! We’ll keep you all updated about the news!
14 – Any last words?
André - Thankxxx a lot for all your whole support and for this great opportunity, we really appreciate it! Our newest split MCD with Bowel Fetus and our first official T-shirt are available right now! If there’s anyone interested, get in touch with us via our MySpace profile www.myspace.com/offalxxx or by our new website www.offalgore.com. The past will never die, the cult is alive – All hail old-skull Death Metal!
